The Panacea: Devotion to Guru
In our lives there are two kinds of ailments external and internal. External diseases are cured by doctors and they don’t cause as much misery as internal ailments. Our internal ailments are desire, anger, greed attachment pride envy and egoism.
In the Bhagawat Purana a remedy is prescribed for the eradication of each of these (internal) ailments. For desire lack of resole for anger desirelessness, for greed thinking about demerits of wealth, for fear the knowledge of the Truth are remedies.
That which burns doshas and emances gunas positive qualities is called a medicine After prescribing remedies for different ailments the devotion to Guru, for all ailments was prescribed.
If you have devotion towards your Guru then he will tell you. Dear boy you are treading the wrong path. Don’t go an this path. Don’t look at the person much, don’t talk to him for too long, don’t sit near him for too long, don’t stick to him, keep good company thoughts relationships an eating habits etc.
When you will be devoted to the lotus feet of the Guru then you will not feel love towards these internal vices. You need honesty in devotion not dishonesty. Dishonesty is the root of all evils and sorrow. An easy way to gain victory over evils and miseries is to render service to one’s Guru with honesty truthfulness, faith and for the welfare of others. I faith is not implicit an if you start indulging in sense pleasures or you get ensnared in fame ego worship and prestige, Guru will forbid you then you will say. Guruji is jealous of me he can’t bear my progress, he can’t tolerate other people loving me. Guruji mind harbors jealousy so he does mot wants me to progress.”
God has actually come in the form of your guru for your welfare and by kindling the lamp of wisdom He is illuminating the path not only that, He is giving it to you in your hands. Look clearly in its light, and walk ahead. But some mistake Him for an ordinary human being: in some one’s mind such perverted thought arise that his entire purity is defiled like an elephant’s bath. Considers an elephant that bathes in lakes and emerges outside the water only to lift sand with his trunk and sprinkles it on himself. Making his condition similar to what it was initially. Similarly those who understand Guruji to be an ordinary human being also reach to their initial state. God makes creation including both the good and the bad, happiness and sorrow, the animate as well as inanimate death and immortality. But great saints do not create death they only create immortally.
They do not create insentience they create only consciousness. They do not make sorrow, they create only happiness. Thus saints refers to those who make beautiful creation who teach spiritual disciplines to the people in order to make then enlightened and the ones who make us one with God. People say that God showers grace on His devotes. He might be doing that. But if there are no great saints. If there is there is no Sadguru the there will be no devotee and if there is no devotee, then who will god is an established entity and true saints, Sadguru are perceptional entitles. God is either nonperceptioal an the as the cause of creation, the creator or He is immediate as the self. If he is non perceptional then you have to believe in Him and if he is immediate to be liven in Him and if he is immediate the he is without attributes action less peaceful.
If there is any perceptional entity of Supreme self it is in the form of great saints, great souls the Mahatmas the sadgurus.
It is only great souls who give you wisdom. Those who want to aim to at a target by just throwing stone in the sky their case is different. But the truth is this that without great saints, neither can you came to know of the nature of God nor about the path to him. Whether we can tread the path towards god or not cannot be known without the guidance of a great soul. That is why the mahatma is said to possess more qualities then God according to the first skandha of Bhagawat Purana. In the eleventh skandha, God has gone to the extent of saying.
The worship of a Mahatma is great then my worship.’
